After a successful fall campaign, which included wins of up to 90 points, the boys' basketball team looks to carry that success into the on-season.
Â
Headlined by the huge acquisition of
Ed Fritz- who ranks #6 all time in total wins (Kansas)- the Hornet team is hungry to avenge last season's 9-13 record. "I just want to see these kids win. On the court and especially in the classroom." Said Fritz.
Â
That sentiment has paid early dividends, as expressed by key players within this year's new look team. "It's really a breath of fresh air. I really wish he would've been here for all four years. The way he's been able to change the culture of this program, especially as quickly is crazy." Said junior
Kanye Montgomery.
Â
This culture change has continued to show, as showcased in a strong Jamboree performance. Headlined by a big scoring outburst from senior,
Dallas Whitney. A transfer from Blue Springs South, Whitney has excellent size and scoring talent.
Â
"I'm just looking to win games. Win a conference and/or district title. This team has a lot of talent and has put the work in over time." Whitney said.
Â
Whitney's marquee connection so far has been junior point-guard
Alex Gunnels. Gunnels is a reserved young man off the court, but his on-court leadership speaks to the new regime. A loud defense competitor, Gunnels empowers the rest of the unit to be better.
Â
"I love playing with these guys. We've really got it and I'm ready to start the revenge tour November 30
th, against Raytown." Gunnels said.Â
Come see the new-look Hornets in action, tonight against Raytown in the Fieldhouse! If you can't make it, we've still got you.
