For the first time in at least a decade, North Kansas City's baseball program has won six games in a row. And their sixth victory was a big one. The Hornets combined to score 16 runs on 13 hits in a three inning mercy-rule blowout over the Van Horn Falcons at Macken on Monday night. It marked the longest winning streak of Coach
Bubba Dotson's career and set a dominating tone heading into the start of conference play later this week.
NKC sent 19 men to the plate in the first inning batting around twice. The inning featured back to back home runs by
Brett Kamler and
Anian Nicolas as well as a two-hit inning for Wes McFarland,
Nick Ward,
Kevin Pelico,
Noah Devero, and Nicolas.
Nick Ward limited the Falcons to one run in three innings of work to take the complete game win. Northtown's offense is clicking on all cylinders with the club improving their team batting average to .380 through eight games, notching 73 hits, 23 doubles, and four home runs.
Noah Devero leads the team's pitching with two wins and a 2.76 ERA followed by
Dayton Horn who also is 2-0 in three appearances. The Hornets as a team have a 3.64 ERA and sport a run differential of +22. The team still has some work to do on their defense, but pitching and hitting has been solid and is well prepared for the conference season ahead of them.
The Hornets cap a stretch of four games in four days and have short break before they face off with the Patriots at Truman High School on Wednesday, then their first conference game against Lee's Summit on Thursday at Legacy Park. Wednesday's game will be broadcast on the N2 Sports Network for those who cannot make it out to Truman. Enjoy highlights of the first inning from the Van Horn victory below:
