The Hornets came out with a tough tournament championship win, Friday, over conference foe, Park Hill South by a score of 53-41.
The Hornets got off to a questionable start in the first quarter, letting the Panthers jump to an early 6-0 lead. However, the Hornets ball movement soon pulled them back into the contest, as at the end of the first, they trailed 16-10.
The second quarter brought the Hornets a defensive run accelerated by excellent fast break play and consistent ball movement. A 6-point swing brought the score at half to a deadlocked 22-22.
Throughout their opening games, the Hornets have proven to take a big leap in offense over the halftime break, such rang true against the Panthers. Big defensive stops, as well as consistent paint play led to a Hornet lead, 36-32.
From the beginning of the 4
th, it was obvious that the Hornet were looking to shut the door. Ball movement, excellent defense, and fast break finishes brought the hornets a great 4
th quarter run only allowing the Panthers to score just 9 points, eventually coming out with a 53-41 victory.
After receiving the championship trophy, senior forward John Elful was awarded All-Tournament Honors, and fellow Hornet, Avian Webb was named tournament Most Valuable Player!
