Dakota Harris pitched into the fourth in the Hornets home opener
After 682 days, the Hornets are home. They played their first game back on Field 1 at Macken Park after over two years of construction. Unfortunately, the Warriors from St. Pius X spoiled the homecoming with a 13-1 victory.
Northtown started off strong led by three strong innings by
Dakota Harris who allowed only two runs into the fourth, but wobbled a bit. NKC scratched across a run in the bottom of the third thanks to the leadoff walk by Aaron Campos, then driven in from a
Josh Mathew hit and a
Robert Morrow sacrifice fly. That would be the only run the Hornets would plate, however, thanks in no small part to five strong innings by Warriors starter Ryan Harman.
Before the game, alumni from Hornet baseball teams of the past, including several who were among the first to play at Macken's Field 1 in 1953 when it first opened were on hand to welcome the Hornets back. The grandson of Joe Presko Sr, one of only two Hornets to play in the Major Leagues, was also on hand - unfortunately in the opposing team's dugout - and he had a day. Luke Presko went 3 for 5 with three doubles, and scored four runs.
North Kansas City is back in action at home Wednesday against Belton as they host the Pirates looking for their first win on the new turf.
