2020 has been a very confusing year so far, but for the North Kansas City High School tennis team, they all see it as an opportunity to get better than ever before. Sitting on a 1-1 record winning against Truman high school 8-1, but losing against Liberty North., but making huge plays even in the losses, this girl's tennis team is not something to laugh at.

Cora Skaggs is currently sitting at Varsity number 4 on the team, with her and Lauren Genusa taking the top Double's spot. "Lauren and I work great together. We are always able to talk about what we need to change about our playing skills. We have lots of fun playing together and is easily one of my favorite things about playing tennis" Lauren and Cora are no stranger to playing each other, working on their game together over the summer. "Tennis is not a sport where you can just roll over. You have to fight for every point, nothing is just given to you," Cora tells me when talking about the mentality she goes into ever match with. When asked about the biggest challenge this year, Cora shook it off like there were no challenges. "You just have to adapt" she says. "Yes, COVID-19 has ravaged other sports programs in our area, and you have to take it one day at a time, but I feel very safe during all our practices." Lauren Genusa and
Cora Skaggs have taken the team under their arms, being the leaders that this team needed.
While the rankings and placements have not been kind to Cora, she has remained undeterred in working harder every day, moving forward and becoming the best player she can be. Big things are in store for this North town tennis team, going against Park Hill South and St. Joe Central on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Both are conference games, and these two hope to make a giant impact on this team in the weeks to come.
