After a spray of losses in their last few games, the Hornets finally buckled down and claimed victory against William Chrisman; effectively advancing their position in the first-round of the Class 5, District 15 playoffs.
The Bears struck quickly, as quarterback Dayne Herl went on a 65-yard scamper to open with a 6-0 lead (blocked extra-point).
However, throughout the night, we saw impeccable game-planning by the coaches and play from quarterback J.J Johnson. The first half featured three Hornet rushing touchdowns and a push towards a 21-12 lead against the bears.
After the break, the Hornet offense caught its wind, and went on a 21-point scoring frenzy, sponsored by the Johnson-Porter connection scoring their 7
th, and 8
th touchdowns through the air, as well as Friar picking up a score on the ground.
After the third, a Hornet victory felt certain, as the towering defense of the Hornets did not give up a score until later in the fourth, effectively sealing a playoff, and regular season rematch with the Platte County Pirates, in what is certain to be a close contest.
As mentioned, tonight, the Hornets take on the Platte County Pirates in a week 4 rematch, this time on Pirate soil.
