The Future is bright for the Northtown Hornet's Men's Golf Team.
This year, the team welcomed two incoming freshmen in
Eric Newberry and
Mateo Whitley. Having no prior experience playing golf, they sure burst onto the scene. In their most recent match against Fort Osage, Raytown, and William Christman, Newberry shot 67 through 9 holes, which put him in 3
rd place for the team.
Whitley was equally dominant, shooting a 71. Besides hitting well during 9-hole matches, they have been crushing it at 18-hole tournaments. At their most recent tournament, with over 15 schools, Newberry played very well, shooting just over the par through the last 5 holes, including a very difficult par shot on a par 4 hole. When asked about why they joined golf, Newberry told me "Coach Peace had asked me if I was doing any spring sports. And when I said no, he suggested I join golf. I really enjoy playing and it was a good decision.
Head Coach Peace also sees the potential in the two young golfers. "I think Eric and Mateo have both gotten better throughout the year. My hope is that I can work with them this summer and have an excellent start to next year." With these two freshmen getting better every single day, they will be cornerstones for the Northtown Men's Golf team for the next 3 years.
