After starting the 2021 season with a loss at home, the Hornets traveled to St. Joe to take on the Central Indians.
Â
A rebound game, you could call it. The best remedy for a week 1 loss is to beat your week 2 opponent 38-0, and that they did. The defensive line, which is undoubtedly heralded as the premiere of the state, filled the backfield at an alarming rate.
Edric Hill racked up 7.5 tackles, 3 of which were for loss,
Domonique Orange totaled 10.5 tackles, 4.5 of which were for loss and PJ Adebawore 11.5 tackles including 5.5 for loss.
Â
Offensively, the Hornets shared the load. 3 different players rushed for a touchdown, in an effort that resulted in a combined 235 rushing yards.
Â
In the first quarter,
JJ Johnson picked up his second touchdown on the ground this season, a short scamper to open the scoring, and after another run, this time by Jermaine House, Jr., the Hornets led 12-0 early.
Â
Kail Williams, then extended the lead on a field goal from 35 yards out, and a strip sack, scoop and score by
Edric Hill made the lead 22-0 at the half.
Â
A back-and-forth 3
rd quarter produced no scoring, and the game was still up for grabs going into the final frame. However,
Alex Beltran shut the door, on a 2-yard run to firmly seal the game as a win in the Hornets favor.
Â
They would add 9 more points, by a way of a blocked punt safety, and a 68-yard kickoff return touchdown to
Keilan Powell, who called his shot the morning of the game.
Â
Other things to note: The Hornet secondary is undervalued, mostly due to the firepower on the line, however, they held Central quarterback Stone Wetlaufer to 13-36 passing.
Â
The Hornets have hopefully found new life, as they take on the #18 Fort Osage (2-0) at home. We wish to see you there!
