Coming into the season, the Hornets hope to show a new team. They have added key freshmen DeeDee Newton and Macey Willman, as well as Nici Parker having another year to become more seasoned. The Hornets are looking like a better team than last year with the threat of shooters Macey Willman, Hailey Black, Kylee Estes, and Nici Parker. They are looking to start the season hot.
In the first quarter, their suffocating defense turned into offense and put the Hornets at a huge advantage. The Hornets held off the Cardinals in remarkable fashion only allowing two points in the first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter was an exceptional 12-2.
Many questioned if the Hornets would maintain their momentum until the half. After a notable sixteen minutes, the Hornets showed they can play defense, just as well as scoring. The ladies allowed an astonishing four points in the first quarter with the score at half being 19-4. At the end of the half, the person that got hot was Nici Parker with a huge eight points.
Coming out of half, the big question was if the Hornets could close out the game. Unfortunately, the Cardinals started to get hot. The score at the end of the 3rd was 30-16. It was looking like a comeback was mounting.
The story of turnovers did not stop. With a comeback looming by the Cardinals, the Hornets lasted long enough to get through the 4th quarter and win the game 40-31.
