Determination is one of the key concepts in any sport, and the Lady Hornets showed this last night. They've proven that they are a team that will never give up. The ladies' power and drive were unmatched, substantiating that not every game can be judged from the first half.
Â
Starting off, this game seemed to be a challenge, as the lady hornets couldn't seem to keep up. While the shots made by freshmen
Macey Willmann and
DeeDee Newton were strong, it just wasn't enough to stop the Indians. The Hornets ended up trailing 6-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
As the second quarter began, the Hornets started strong, but it wasn't enough to compete with the Indians. The team managed to gain 6 more points, taking their lead 16-20. Nonetheless, the Lady Hornets refused to give up. Their teamwork was enough to tie the game 20-20. However, last-minute shots from the Indians, brought their lead back ending the half with 25-20.
Â
There's always room for a comeback and the Hornets were ready to prove it. The Indian's lead in the first half wasn't enough to discourage the Hornet's fight completely. The entire team was playing at its best.
Hailey Black's shots were nothing short of flawless. She was able to tip the game in their favor, bringing the score to 28-25. The Hornets took this momentum and continued to rack up even more points. Courtesy of William and Newton, the Hornets kept their lead until the end, resting at just 34-30.
Â
"Every minute matters," is a quote these two teams took seriously. The intensity of the 4th quarter was unmatched, not one second was left unused. Both teams wanted the win, and both were ready to fight tooth and nail for it. Every shot mattered; every move had to be calculated. The last 4 minutes were crucial, heeding a vicious, back-to-back game. It was passes from #12
Liana Wainit and shots from Black that brought the ladies to a greatly earned win of 49-44.
