Over spring break, the Hornets track team took a trip to Staley to compete in the Falcon Relays.
Coach Gbomina (girls sprints) spoke briefly on the importance of this meet, "It's great that our team, in general got to compete. Rockhurst was more of a warmup to get team structure figured out, this was the real deal." Said Gbomina
The Hornet's faced Staley, Park Hill, St. Joe Central, Oak Park, Kearney, Platte County, Liberty and Liberty North, and both Hornet's squads placed 5
th overall.
The majority of the Hornet's scoring came from big performances from Kennady Washington, who placed 2
nd in the 100m dash, 2
nd in the 200m dash and 1
st in the long jump for a total contribution of 26 points to the girl's score.
Sophomore Calissa Minatee added 3 points with a 5
th place finish in the Javelin, Mac Foley added 12 more, placing 4
th in the Discus and 2
nd in the shot put.
Hurdler Morgan Verdught added 12 points, placing 4
th in the 300 hurdles and 2
nd in the 100m hurdles
The girls 4x100 meter relay also added 10 points, winning with the team of Washington, Carter, Landers and Liana Wainit.
On the boy's side, Keilan Powell made his season debut, putting up 8 points for the Hornets, placing 2
nd in the 100m dash.
The boys also debuted a 4x100, and 4x200 relay squad that took 3
rd, putting up 6 points with the team of Matthew, Landers, Brown and Powell in the 4x100 and Matthew, Murgus, Landers and Powell in the 4x200.
The throwers, however, stole the show, with Danny Joiner raking in a 1
st place finish in both the shot put and Discus, as well as 2
nd in the Javelin for a total of 28 points. Alex Beltran added 4 points (4
th place) in the shot put, followed by Jackson Baehr who added 3 points (5
th place).
Zion Moore continued his hot start with a win in the long jump, adding 10 points.
