The Lady Hornets took home a big win last night, against the Smithville Warriors, in a close back-to-back game.
 
The Hornets were able to capture some fifth set momentum, and ultimately extend their win streak to 6 games. Placing them firmly in contention for a conference title.
 
Both teams began the first set fired up and determined to win. The Hornets were able to produce outstanding communication, connecting their passes, sets and hits, leading them to take the first set home, 25-15.
 
In the second set, the Warriors began to find a grove, connecting on fast swings and well communicated defensive possessions. But this did not stop senior outside hitter, Amaya McBride, making numerous plays along the perimeter. However, this was not enough to stop the Warriors, causing the Hornets to fall short on the second set, 19-25.
 
In both the third and fourth set, the Hornets and Warriors stayed neck-and-neck with each other. The Hornets caught late momentum and took the third set, 25-23, however the Warriors matched the move. Using a late run to force a decisive fifth set.oH
 
The high intensity fifth set held high anticipation from the crowd. With the help of the Hornets, senior standout and Minnesota commit, Calissa Minatee, they were able to set up amazing blocks helping North Kansas City stop Smithville's offense. A back and forth set capped off with a soft shot from fellow senior Kylee Estes found the floor to give the Hornets a 18-16 set, and overall match win!
 
The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday, September 20^th at Excelsior Springs, where they look to keep the streak alive!
