It's a good time to be on the Northtown Girls' Soccer Team. They are off to a 4-2 season start, with a top offense to boast along with it.
Led by Seniors
Mary Cate Recthien,
Ellie Super,
Chloe Tays and
Maddie Porras, with a healthy crop of juniors and sophomores, and a couple intriguing freshmen, this team is stacked from top to bottom.
When asked about the hot start to the season, head coach
Kali Park was extremely happy with the early performances. "The girls came out excited to play and hungry to win after not getting a season last year. Many of these girls have played together for a couple years, so already starting with a bond made it easier for us to start practicing at a higher level" she said.
Senior Captain
Mary Cate Recthien also sees the potential of this team. "I think we gained some great players, and we all work together by communicating and it has translated to wins."
Each player on this roster has been performing at an elite level, with Super and Sophomore
Abby Knipp with 20 goals combined, along with Tays and Rechtien playing top tier defense with 2 clean sheets apiece.
Junior
Corrina Roth is another player on this team who has been an integral cog in this well-oiled machine and sees the chemistry starting to sprout onto the field. "We've won against a couple good teams so it's really exciting. It's fun to play a sport but it's even better when you're a part of a team that works together. We've done well creating opportunities and scoring together rather than individually."
Sophomore
Abby Knipp is also dominating on the field right now, with 8 goals and 5 assists to her name. "I try to be a team player by setting up my teammates and capitalizing on opportunities."
With talent from top to bottom, this team has earned this quick start to the season more than any other team in the conference. Everything coming for this team, whether it's a conference championship or even a trip to the state competition, the 2020-2021 NKC Girls' Soccer Team deserves every accolade they are in line to get this year.
